Cascades Jonquière paperboard plant

Jonquière - Québec - Canada

Built : 1984
Abandoned : 2015
Type : Mill
The Cascades Jonquière plant, opened in 1984 in the Saguenay region of Quebec, was once a major paperboard mill specializing in recycled fibre production for packaging and industrial use. For more than three decades, the facility played a key role in the region’s manufacturing sector, operating large pulping systems, paper machines and converting lines that supplied clients across North America. After its acquisition by Graphic Packaging, the plant was permanently closed in 2015 and later demolished, leaving behind only fragments of concrete foundations and scattered traces of what had once been a massive industrial complex. Today, the former Cascades Jonquière site survives mostly through photographs and memories, a vanished landmark of Quebec’s industrial history and a powerful symbol for urban exploration and documentation.
