Glass recycling plant
Urbexer – JMTUrbex
Montréal - Québec - Canada
The glass recycling plant in Montréal exists in a divided state, where active production and abandonment coexist within the same industrial footprint. Certain sections continue to operate, maintaining regulated noise, movement, and heat, while adjacent areas remain withdrawn from use. In these inactive zones, conveyors stop mid-course, furnaces cool permanently, and steel structures oxidize without maintenance. The contrast is subtle but persistent. Sound fades abruptly at boundaries once defined only by workflow. Light enters unused halls differently, settling on dust, rust, and fixed machinery rather than circulating material. The abandoned sections do not signify failure, but obsolescence, parts of a system left behind as processes evolved. What remains is a layered industrial landscape, where present function and past utility occupy the same space without interaction.
